100 Days of Deception Ep. 7 Imagined Scenario | "What Is That in Your Hand?" The Hidden Photo Blows Up
⚠️ This is not the real episode 7. It's a version of episode 7 that Gordon Insight imagined and wrote, and the actual episode 7 (airing October 31) may well be different. It covers episodes 1–6 and the official episode 7 teaser, and the imagined parts are marked with the "Imagination 1–6" headings and the words "my imagined version".
One moment in the episode 7 teaser grabbed me right away. Ga-kyung's hand, hiding something behind her back. And then this line.
"What is that in your hand?"
So what is she holding? Let's go back to the two names Sato muttered when he was left alone at the end of episode 6. Keum Seok-jung. And Keum Seo-hee.
That same night, in the records room of Suwon Police Station, a photograph went into an envelope. And who sent for that envelope? Sato. He's the one who ordered Keum Seok-jung's personal records found and sent over.

So today I'm trying something a little different. Using the episode 7 teaser and the clues from episodes 1 through 6, I'm going to imagine episode 7 myself and sketch it out. The real broadcast may turn out differently.
There are two questions. One: that photo from Suwon, whose hands does it reach first, Sato's or Ga-kyung's? Two: faced with that photo, whose side will Hideo take?
And at the very end, we'll go all the way to what comes out of Sato's drawer. Because that could be the thing that ends Ga-kyung's 100 days.
Clues Left by Episode 6
Before the imagining starts, let's go over just three clues from episode 6.
One: the name. Remember what Philip revealed about So-ran's past. In Kyeam-ri, when her husband refused to give up his comrades, Sato killed his daughter. That daughter's name was Seo-hee. Keum Seo-hee, the fake name Ga-kyung uses at the Government-General, was the name of a child who died 13 years ago.
Two: Sato's suspicion. After Seok-jung's death, Sato stops Fukuda and asks him this.
"Did you know Keum is a rare family name?"
Rare, as in hardly anyone has it. And when he asks Suwon for the file, he adds: "There should be a record from 13 years ago."
Suwon, 13 years ago, means Kyeam-ri. The past Sato erased, going as far as changing his own name.

Three: Hideo's heart. Sato's order was to make the girl trust him, but "you must never trust her."
And yet at the end of episode 6, Hideo followed Ga-kyung, her hands still shaking, all the way home. When he asked if she was okay, the first true answer she gave him was no, she wasn't. Then Hideo pulls her into his arms.
So was that embrace part of the order? Or was it him breaking it?
Three Lines from the Teaser
The teaser starts with an order handed down in the office.
"Look into Keum Seo-hee's record. Her past, all of it. Leave nothing out."
First Keum Seok-jung's personal records, now Keum Seo-hee's record too. Someone has started digging into Keum Seo-hee for real. And then, in some records room, comes this: "Could it be Kyeam-ri?"
Then a man holding a telephone asks back, in Japanese: "A family photo?"
Kyeam-ri, and a family photo. But why is he asking back? Could it be that a photo that should have been there wasn't?
That was also the most-liked comment on our last episode 7 preview video. Ga-kyung smuggles out the family photo, but Sato finds out that such a photo exists.
I'm on the same side. But I want to bet on one more thing: that what Sato has been after from the start might not be a photo at all. What it is, you'll find out in the last imagination.
Imagination 1: The Envelope
From here through Imagination 6, this is episode 7 as I imagine it. Whenever a scene actually happened in episodes 1–6, I'll flag it with "in episode 6" and the like.
Imagination one. The envelope from Suwon arrives at the Government-General. It's addressed to the Inspector General.
But what if, before it reaches the Inspector General's office, it passes through the interpreters' office? A 13-year-old file from Suwon is bound to include statements written in Korean, and someone has to translate them. That interpreter trainee is Keum Seo-hee.
A single photograph slips out of the envelope. It's the very photo that went into the envelope at the end of episode 6. A man in a white hanbok, a woman beside him, and a child standing in front. The moment Ga-kyung sees the woman's face, her breath catches.
It's her madam. So-ran, 13 years ago. And the child in front is the real Keum Seo-hee. Since the photo was attached to Keum Seok-jung's file, the man in white must be Keum Seok-jung as a young man.
If this photo lands on Sato's desk, working out who the woman is will only be a matter of time. This is the man who, in episode 1, looked at So-ran and said there was something Korean about her.
And if it comes out that this face now lives in Gyeongseong as Yoo Philip's Chinese wife, So-ran, Philip and Keum Seo-hee all go down at once.
So my imagined Ga-kyung takes out only the photo. She leaves the envelope as it is. Just that one photo.
She can't take the file too. The file is what Sato specifically asked for, so if it comes up empty, she's caught on the spot. One photo, though, she can explain away as never having been there in the first place.
This is the Ga-kyung who, in episode 6, had to keep a straight face even after seeing Seok-jung's last moments. In front of Fukuda, she even had to chime in that he must have been a weak man. To protect her madam, once again she has no choice but to pile one more lie on top.
What Ga-kyung doesn't know is that in episode 6, Fukuda had already warned Sato that this could turn into a problem like Kyeam-ri. And why was Kyeam-ri a problem 13 years ago? Because back then, too, a foreign reporter got the story out to the press abroad, and it blew up.
The one thing Sato's side fears most: a foreign reporter. And that reporter's house is exactly where Ga-kyung is now heading, with the photo hidden on her.
So here's how I imagine that phone call in the teaser. The family photo that should have been attached to the file from 13 years ago is missing. And somewhere along the path that envelope took, there was Keum Seo-hee.
Then who did Ga-kyung, with the photo hidden on her, end up face to face with that night?
Imagination 2: The Rooftop
Imagination two. The night she hides the photo, Ga-kyung sits down across from Hideo. That bar from the teaser, and the Government-General rooftop.
After all, episode 6 is where she first admitted to him that she wasn't okay. But this time it's Hideo who opens up first. A boy who grew up on the streets of Gyeongseong and became the adopted son of the Japanese Inspector General. What he confides is this line from the teaser.
"I don't belong anywhere anyway."
If you had to sum Hideo up in one line, that's it. Among the Japanese, he's Korean. Among Koreans, he's the Inspector General's son.
And the irony of the scene is who he's confiding in: Ga-kyung, of all people, a spy.
Maybe that's why his feelings keep leaking out only around her. On the stairs in episode 6, he snapped at her that people like her make him sick. Says she makes him sick, then follows her all the way anyway. Was I the only one laughing?
I also think of what Sato told him in episode 6, by way of praise: a true Japanese shows no emotion.
But right now, Hideo is showing emotion. And only in front of Ga-kyung.

Then there was the construction site in episode 6. While interpreting, Hideo quietly changed what was said, behind his father's back: the Korean workers were being worked too hard, and they were falling ill one after another.
What Sato said in the car on the way back that day, I'll save for Imagination 4 at the residence. For now, let's just say he's not a man who lets even his son's little lies slide.
My imagined Ga-kyung wavers here. The photo she hid to protect her madam has turned into a lie that deceives this man.
Maybe in that moment, for the first time, she thinks it. With this one person, she doesn't want to lie.
That's when my imagined Hideo looks at her face and asks what happened to her back then.
Ga-kyung would have smiled instead of answering. The way she always does. Like in episode 6, when Hideo asked for her real name and she fobbed him off with Lee Gae-ttong, which means, roughly, dog poop.
I cracked up at that scene, but I don't think the Ga-kyung of episode 7 will have the luxury of laughing things off like that.
So where did Ga-kyung take the photo that night?
Imagination 3: Heewon's Night
Imagination three. That night, Heewon.
Let's pick up where episode 6 left off. At the gate of Heewon, alone, Ga-kyung murmured to herself, wondering how she was supposed to tell her.
So-ran still doesn't know how her husband died. Instead of words, my imagined Ga-kyung sets down the photo, and next to it, one more thing.
In the interrogation room in episode 6, Seok-jung left Ga-kyung one last request: buy a castella cake on her way home.
A castella cake. Her husband's last request, set down next to a photo of the daughter she's seeing for the first time in 13 years.
Even without a word, she'd know from Ga-kyung's face. So-ran would look at that photo and that castella for a very long time.
Remember why So-ran held Philip back in episode 6? If it came out that Seok-jung was from Kyeam-ri, her own identity could be exposed.
That very danger is now in Ga-kyung's hands, in the shape of a single photo. But my imagined So-ran doesn't burn it.
Instead, she tells Ga-kyung to put it back where it was. Because the photo going missing would itself be even bigger evidence for Sato.
Cold, right? But that's who So-ran was all along in episode 6. Even with her husband arrested, she told Philip to leave it to fate and not do anything.
Then, just as Ga-kyung is about to leave the room, So-ran breaks, just once. Running her fingertips over the child in the photo.
A woman who has held out for 13 years, and only in front of that photo do her shoulders shake.
This was also why, in episode 6, Ga-kyung told So-ran she envied Seo-hee. Seo-hee had a mother willing to risk her life for her daughter.
That same night, what was Sato thinking at the residence?
Imagination 4: The Residence
Imagination four. Same night, the residence. Sato calls his son in.
What my imagined Sato asks about is Keum Seo-hee. Has he won the girl's trust? Where the answer goes, I'll put this line from the teaser.
"Keum Seo-hee is a pretty decent person."
To a father who told him to make her trust him but never to trust her, this is practically a confession. And the question that comes back is whether he's had a change of heart since coming to Joseon. That one is from the teaser, too.
My imagined Hideo goes one step further. About Seok-jung's death, he says this line from the teaser.
"He should have been given a proper trial."
Hideo was right there that day in episode 6. He was the one who blocked Ga-kyung's way when she came running down at the sound of the gunshot.
In episode 6, it was Sato who decided Seok-jung's cause of death in advance. He said he wouldn't kill him, and then told him that his cause of death would be an illness.
So right now Hideo is going straight at a death his father covered up. My imagined Sato answers with a short line from the teaser, the one about how he himself has no regrets.
It's a short line, but it gives me chills. In episode 6, Sato told Seok-jung himself that he was cleared of all charges in court. For Sato, Kyeam-ri 13 years ago is over and done with.
And then my imagined Sato puts his son to the test. Take the file from Suwon and Keum Seo-hee's record, he says, and match them up yourself.
He's tested his son before, in episode 6. This is the car scene I saved for later. On the way back from the construction site, Sato suddenly asked whether Hideo had interpreted correctly that day. Then, right after saying he trusted him, the order he gave was to have the workers work an hour longer every day.
This time it isn't an interpretation, it's Keum Seo-hee. If Hideo hides anything, the son ends up under suspicion too.
Between his father and Ga-kyung, Hideo now stands right in the middle. So whose side will he take?
Imagination 5: That Photo
Imagination five. The next day, Hideo opens the Suwon file first. Keum Seok-jung, his wife, and a daughter.
The name written in the daughter's box: Keum Seo-hee.
The photo may be gone, but the name was still right there in the file. It's the same envelope Ga-kyung took only the photo from.
Hideo goes straight to Ga-kyung. As it happens, she's holding the photo, trying to work out how to put it back. And then the door opens.
The teaser scene from the top of this post will look different now. The one where he calls out to Ms. Keum and asks what she's holding.
At this point Ga-kyung has only two options. Lie, or get caught.
But my imagined Ga-kyung takes a third way. She holds out the photo first, and hands the choice over to Hideo.
Hideo doesn't know the woman in the photo. And the man beside her has a face from 13 years ago, so he'd be hard to recognize right away.
But if this is the photo missing from the file he's just read, he knows the child in front is the owner of that name.
Then Ga-kyung adds one more thing. The very words she said in the interrogation room in episode 6, singing her madam's praises in front of Seok-jung: that her madam gave her the pretty name Keum Seo-hee.
The woman who gave her her name. Hideo heard that too, standing right there. And that madam would be Yoo Philip's Chinese wife.
Who the woman in the photo is clicks into place in Hideo's head. Now Hideo knows as much as Ga-kyung does.
If he takes it to his father, Hideo earns his approval, and Ga-kyung is finished. If he doesn't, this time it's Hideo who's deceiving his father.
In episode 6, there was something Hideo said as he blocked Ga-kyung's way: whatever she was assuming, she had it wrong.
My imagined Hideo says those words to himself this time. And he puts the photo back in Ga-kyung's hand.
But this choice, did his father really not know?
Imagination 6: The Drawer
Imagination six, the ending of episode 7. When Hideo comes back to the office, Sato asks whether he checked.
Hideo's answer is that there was nothing. Even after reading that name in the file.
Not a quiet tweak like the interpreting, but his first lie told openly, to his father's face.
But Sato smiles. Because before handing the file to his son, Sato had already read it himself.
A wife, and a daughter. Keum Seo-hee, in the daughter's box. Sato knew the answer all along, and was watching to see whether his son would bring it to him.
Then Sato opens his drawer and lays the file down in front of his son, asking why, if there was nothing, the girl's name is right here.
The first lie his son told him openly, the father already knew about. If I were the writer, I'd end episode 7 right there.
Today's Answer and the Picks
That's the end of the imagining. Let's go back to the first question. That photo: whose hands does it reach first?
My imagined answer is this. Ga-kyung gets hold of the photo first, but Sato had the name first.
What did Sato tell Suwon to send in episode 6? Not a photo, but personal records.
He was looking for a name, not a face, from the very start. That's the bet I placed earlier.
And Sato knows Seok-jung's face, too. In episode 6, when he opened the door of the interrogation room, the first thing out of his mouth was whether it had been 13 years.
Seok-jung's daughter's name is Keum Seo-hee. An interpreter trainee using that name is sitting in the Government-General right now. Even without a photo, it all lines up.
And the real lead of this imagined episode might not be Ga-kyung, but Hideo. His father's side, or Keum Seo-hee's?
The show is called 100 Days of Deception, after all. In my imagined episode 7, it isn't just Ga-kyung who starts lying. Hideo does too.
Gordon Insight Picks
All right, here are my three Gordon Insight picks for the real episode 7. These aren't imagination. They're predictions.
Pick one. The name Seo-hee turns up in the Suwon file. What clinches Sato's suspicion of Keum Seo-hee won't be a photo but a name. And that one line in Japanese from the teaser, about a family photo? I think that's going to be the first crack in episode 7.
Pick two. Sato hands the job of checking Keum Seo-hee's record not to anyone else but to Hideo. He's testing his son.
Pick three. The one in the teaser murmuring whether it could be Kyeam-ri is Ga-kyung. In other words, she gets a look inside that envelope herself, too.
I'll grade all three as soon as episode 7 airs. If I'm right, I'll brag shamelessly. If I'm wrong, I'll own it.
What's your prediction? A: Ga-kyung keeps that photo safe to the end. B: Sato figures out who So-ran really is within episode 7. Pick one before you watch episode 7. It'll be fun to check once it airs.
I'll break down the next episode as soon as it airs, too.
